The School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science (SPTRS) invites applications for a Clinical Physical Therapist with a musculoskeletal emphasis, e.g., sports and/or orthopedics.  This clinical position uniquely combines clinical practice with a musculoskeletal emphasis in the UMPT Physical Therapy Clinic, clinical mentoring of doctoral physical therapy students, mentoring and assistance with our orthopedic residency program, and lab-based teaching assistance in courses within the Doctor of Physical Therapy curriculum as assigned.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides patient-centered, evidence-informed, professional physical therapy services with a musculoskeletal emphasis to individuals referred from providers and through direct access to physical therapy.
  • Serves as a leader and role model for physical therapy students and our orthopedic resident by consistently demonstrating professional behaviors consistent with the APTA Code of Ethics in all interactions with peers, students, faculty, patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Participation as a research clinician for scholarly projects within the SPTRS and its associated faculty as assigned.
  • Delivers high-quality instruction as a clinical preceptor and teaching assistant for graduate-level physical therapy students as assigned.
  • Assists as part of the mentorship team and residency faculty for the UMPT’s APTA-accredited orthopedic residency program.
  • Responsible for supervision of gym staff.
  • Works consistently as a team player contributing to a positive work environment and being respectful of the ideas and expertise of others, demonstrating collegiality, and being self-driven.
  • Regularly participates in professional development activities to maintain currency in clinical practice.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Eligible for Montana Licensure as a Physical Therapist; must have Montana licensure as a contingency for hire.
  • Two (2) years or more of clinical practice as a physical therapist in an outpatient musculoskeletal setting.
  • Experience and proficiency in providing physical therapy services to individuals with orthopedic and/or sports-related injuries.
  • Knowledge and integration of best practices in physical therapy.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility.
  • Ability to maintain at least 75% productivity during clinical practice time.
  • Demonstrate professional communication skills (e.g. writing, verbal, non-verbal).
  • Willingness to take initiative towards achieving the goals and mission of NSE Physical Therapy Clinic and professional development.
  • Experience in marketing physical therapy services to healthcare providers.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform accurate assessments (self & program).
  • Ability to provide professional, constructive feedback to peers and staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current Montana licensure as a Physical Therapist.
  • ABPTS Certification in orthopedics or sports; or willingness to sit for the exam within the first year of employment.
  • Evidence of advanced training, certifications, or credentials in musculoskeletal practice such as completion of an orthopedic or sports residency or fellowship.
  • Experience precepting DPT students.
  • Experience precepting DPT students in at least a 2:1 student-to-preceptor model.
  • Completion of the APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program courses.
  • Current CPR certification (AED included).
